Multi-omics study of extremophilic bacteria for the identification and production of secondary metabolites with pharmaceutical potential

Resumen
This multi-omic study focuses on halophilic and thermophilic bacteria isolated from extreme environments in Mexico, specifically saline lakes in Zapotitlán Salinas, Puebla and a geyser in Tecozautla, Hidalgo to identify and produce bioactive secondary metabolites with pharmaceutical potential. The methodology integrates three stages: stage 1 involves physicochemical analysis of samples, isolation and phenotypic screening; stage 2 employs multi-omics approaches and stage 3 evaluates bioactivities. Preliminary results confirm alkaline conditions in samples, acidic soil at the geyser, dominance of Gram-negative bacilli and Gram-positive bacilli and high catalase activity. The best culture medium was APCS for halophiles and ATM1 for thermophiles. The highest biosurfactant activity was presented by bacteria isolated from water samples with 40-90% salinity and bacteria isolated from thermal water grown at 70°C. These microorganisims have pharmaceutical potential.
